Hailstones

Calgary, Canada

Calgary band of Hesam Ohadi, Mehraun Ehsani, Jill Shannon and Matt Doherty. Dream pop and heavygaze with electronics, industrial texture and clear narrative vocals.

Hesam Ohadi — vocals, electronics
Mehraun Ehsani — guitar
Jill Shannon — bass
Matt Doherty — drums

Hailstones formed in Calgary in 2023 around singer Hesam Ohadi, who began writing at the piano after more than a decade making electronic music. The project became a band with Mehraun Ehsani on guitar and Jill Shannon on bass; drummer Matt Doherty joined in winter 2025, folding acoustic and electronic percussion together.

Live, the group sits between song and weight — guitar, bass and drums against electronics, with vocals that move from low register to falsetto. They have played Sled Island in Calgary, ANTiPODE in Seattle, Black Ice and Palomino.

The debut LP The Weariness of Hope (2025) takes its title from Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s About Dry Grasses. A second album is due in 2026.
